Modulations

Posted by: FRANKDEE | Comments (0)

Modulations is a feature-length documentary that traces the evolution of electronic music as one of the most profound artistic developments of the 20th century.

By cutting back and forth between avant garde composers, Kraftwerk’s innovative synthesizer drones, Giorgio Moroder’s glacial Euro-disco, Afrika Bambaataa’s electro-funk and Prodigy’s current worldwide superstarstardom, Modulations ‘celebrates the nomadic drift of the post-human techno sound’.

“We are not entertainers, we are sound scientists.”

The History of the Boombox

Posted by: FRANKDEE | Comments (0)

Before iPods (or even CDs) there were boomboxes. It’s been 20 years since they disappeared from the streets, but the nostalgia they evoke is about more than stereo equipment. We’ve changed the way we listen to music — and to each other. Watch a video about the history of the boombox. Learn more about the boombox HERE.

The Joy of Disco

Posted by: FRANKDEE | Comments (0)

Documentary about how a much-derided music actually changed the world. Between 1969 and 1979 disco soundtracked gay liberation, foregrounded female desire in the age of feminism and led to the birth of modern club culture as we know it today, before taking the world by storm.

The Pilot

Posted by: crookone | Comments (0)

I saw The Pilot on tv with my neighborhood buddies back in Whittier in 1984. Never saw anything about it anywhere ever since. (Then came YouTube) I would always ask people if they remembered this shit and no one really knew what the fuck I was talking about. It first surfaced on YouTube about 4 years ago, but mazinz2 recently uploaded a pretty clean version of it. It is a coming of age story that…eh shit basically its got some corny acting, breaking/popping/b-boy shit with soundtrack by Egyptian Lover, early 80′s So Cal steez! Enjoy!
